When I first got into self-development, I was full of passion and motivation. I wanted success, confidence, health, happiness- everything. And I wanted it all fast.

So I laid my hands on every self-help book I could. I read one after the other, elated that I was checking so many books off my tbr. I was also listening to self-improvement podcasts and books.

This didn’t last long and very soon, I got weary of all this content. It felt like these books were repeating the same advice. Most of them were a bunch of blog posts slapped into a book.

Books about goal-setting written by self-proclaimed gurus pump you up momentarily, and so do Tony Robbins’ videos. But when someone who has looked death in the eye and then found meaning in life, tells you what the purpose of life really is, the impact is different.
